‘Mr. Saturday Night’ performance from Billy Crystal a highlight of ‘22 Tony Awards Ryan Welton, June 14, 2022December 9, 2023 I’d never watched an entire Tony Awards broadcast until Sunday. But I knew my stepdaughter was musical crazy, so I recorded them. We listen to the SiriusXM “On Broadway” channel on the way to theatre camp each morning, and I’m pretty well versed on what shows are out there. But I’m also a novice. A casual but engaged theatre-consumer. Love the music from Company and the opening number from A Strange Loop. All of Six is a giant ear worm and I’m a big MJ fan. I have a massive soft spot for Bob Dylan, so I’d probably like Girl From The North Country. But when Billy Crystal started Yiddish scatting from Mr. Saturday Night, I started laughing uncontrollably. I couldn’t stop. Anyway, having watched the entire broadcast, I’d like to go see Mr. Saturday Night, Company, Girl From The North Country — and I wouldn’t argue about Six or MJ. Likewise, among plays, I’d love to see The Minutes, The Lehman Trilogy and Take Me Out.
