something i'm passionate about ...
I’m not a PETA guy. I eat meat, and I don’t mind if you wear a fur.
However, I’m passionate about pets. Not insane, just passionate. I’m a firm believer in stiff punishments for animal abusers, even moreso than are on the books. On the other hand, I’m never going to tell you how to raise your pet, certainly never in person and never through the course of legislation...

new year's resolutions
I’m a list guy, a tried and true Virgo, and this means I love resolutions.
I wouldn’t mind if we came up with quarterly resolutions or if it was in vogue to establish New Month’s Resolutions. However, I’ve been on this planet 38 years and a few months, and I know full well that resolutions are nothing more than empty statements without determination and discipline.

3 more movies ...
Had the chance to watch some more movies with the family Saturday night, which gave me the chance to push “Run Fatboy Run” on ‘em.
I’d already seen this Brit comedy, starring Simon Pegg and the gorgeous Thandie Newton, but I knew it would be a hit with everyone else, and it was. The critics panned it due to a lack of originality, but what the critics don’t get is...
movie fest
Per usual, I watched a few movies over the holiday. Some for the first time. Others again.
First, we watched Steve Carrell in “Get Smart,” and while I don’t think the family totally dug it, I enjoyed the movie adaptation of the 1960s TV hit. Started slow but picked up steam.
Carrell was perfect for the part of Maxwell Smart, and Anne Hathaway was great as Agent 99.
Then,...

merry christmas
Historically, Christmas has never been one of my favorite holidays. Its materialistic development over the last 25 years or so has run opposed to my enjoyment of it.
Hey, not that I didn’t like gifts as a kid.
However, now that I’m in my late 30s, each holiday is a chance to catch up with family and to chill. And, as I’ve made a priority to grow my faith from tiny pebbles to at...

muskogee songwriting contest
I’ve been thinking a lot about resolutions for 2009. Believe it or not, I kept most of them for 2008, particularly the one about learning how to cook three new dishes.
I picked up 10-12 new dishes in all. Cooking is easy. This was a challenge of my laziness.
However, I’m pretty sure one of my resolutions for 2009 will be to enter 10 songwriting contests. And, hey, I’m already a...

a little, er, big comedy
I’m a big believer that folks need to go out of their way from time to time to laugh. Good for the soul. Good physically.
John Pinette was on The View today, and while I didn’t really listen to what he had to say, I was reminded of this clip. It’s one of the funniest 10-minute clips of comedy ever.
FYI: totally clean, totally SFW.

2 movies i'd like to see soon ...
I wouldn’t mind seeing “Slumdog Millionaire” and “The Wrestler” pretty soon. Both movies intrigue and interest me greatly — the former because of all the great word-of-mouth it’s gotten.
Several people have highly recommended Danny Boyle’s new movie to me, the story of a young street kid who does well on a game show and is suspected of cheating. The...

5 items new to my diet
I’ve heard and long suspected that if crackheads would just eat a healthful diet, they’d be able to at least appear functional.
OK, perhaps I’m exaggerating. And, I certainly don’t mean to take the joy out of food. Nor would I want to give anybody an excuse to develop a crack habit. However, for me, food is becoming more functional and less aesthetic as I get older.
I...

i'm officially a tumblrer
Have to say I’m fascinated with Tumblr, although from what little research I’ve done, this technology has been around for 3 years at least.
Nevertheless, the short snippets of info plus the cool look have me hooked for now. If you’re stumbling upon this blog (they should totally have something called stumblr), I’m a musician and writer from Oklahoma. I love music, sports,...
